    5 Picks from PHILIA Collection

Batten and Kamp is the collaborative art and design practice of Alexandra Batten (b.1990) and Daniel Kamp (b.1991). The Aotearoa New Zealand-born duo create furniture and sculptures with a conceptual approach that combines organic and artificial elements in precisely executed, minimalistic compositions. Their investigations centre around relationships and tensions; between nature and culture, between comfort and discomfort, between themselves and their context.

Batten and Kamp were recently recognised by Design Anthology as the leading emerging designers from Asia Pacific with the Emerging Talent Award. The duo have mounted solo exhibitions with Art Central in Hong Kong (2022), Novalis Art Design in Hong Kong (2021), and Design Art Tokyo in Japan (2020) where they received the Design Art Tokyo Under 30 Award. They have exhibited works in group shows worldwide including with Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris, Objective Gallery in Shanghai, and Love House in New York. They have participated in many art fairs such as PAD Paris and Art Basel Hong Kong. They have completed special commissions for the Palace Museum of Hong Kong and Art Central Hong Kong. Their works are in the permanent collection of OMM Museum in Turkey and are currently on show in the institution’s fifth-anniversary exhibition.

“I absolutely love this piece. Not only is it incredible as a form – combining the structured and the natural, but the dripping and decaying details are beautiful.”

“The proportions of this seat are great… I love that it behaves more like a sculpture or piece of architecture than it does a chair.”
“Henry is a great friend and favourite collaborator of ours. His use of colour and form never ceases to amaze me. His work always feels a few steps ahead.”
“I’m drawn to the depth and texture of this piece…I love the way he makes his ceramic feel volcanic.”

“I’ve always loved William’s work and it’s even more special now that we have become friends…I love the way his pieces feel somewhere between bodily and primordial.”
